At GTI’s Statistics, Analytics, and GIS for Energy (SAGE) Conference, I had the privilege of sharing a keynote on a theme that has shaped my career for more than two decades: how human judgment and meaning remain essential in an era dominated by AI, IoT, and digital twins.

As the chair of the OGC EmissionML Standard Working Group, I’ve had many conversations about what EmissionML is—and just as importantly, what it isn’t. It’s an initiative I’m deeply passionate about, and frankly, one that’s often misunderstood. So let’s clear the air.
